Scott together with the outstanding talent on Sunday 29th May

I must say the quality of music and singing was spine tingling at times, an absolutely fantastic evening, with a full picture house. Congratulations to the organisiors Paddy McGuire, Jason Elliot and Craig Shaw. This should turn into a fantastic annual event in the Hebden Bridge Calender.

Handmade Parade workshop

Amy and Natalie

Amy, myself and the children attended the Handmade Parade workshops to start work on our costumes for this years parade on 11th June.

Following last year's truly spectacular parade, the children said they wanted to take part this year. We have had great fun together making our costumes and we will attend workshops over the next 2 weeks to ensure they are finished.

This really is a fantastic community wide event, the organisors have been keen to involve all aspects from our community, with all ages welcome and the schools also taking an active part. Past parade's have been spectacular and this years I am sure will also be another mega one, bringing many people into our area.

As a family, we have had great fun making the costumes and the organisors are keen to help all get involved making the costumes at the workshops.

We are now thoroughly looking forward to the parade itself.

Below Stairs Musical at St Michael's in Mytholmroyd

Amy and myself attended a wonderful evening at St. Michael's church hall last Saturday 21st May.

This musical comedy by St Michael's amateurs was about the life of  servants in a rich family home at the turn of the last century. Considering they are all amateurs the level of singing, musical and acting talent was truly remarkable. All money raised was for Yorkshire Cancer care. Both Amy and I thought that this production compared admirably with what we have seen in theatres in London and Manchester. We truly do have a pool of rich talent in our area.

Special thanks to Eric and Lesley Alston and the entire cast for a fantastic evening and we are looking forward to their next show later this year.

Fair 4 Youth

I opened Fair 4 youth on Saturday 21st May

This event was organised by the young people's working party for the young people of the area and what a success it was. Special thanks also to Lesley Jones and John Gale who were key in the events organisation.

There were many local bands and the quality of music was truly fantastic, a real tribute to the level of talent in our area. There was also a DJ tent, various activities incuding 5 a side, bouncy castles and a graffiti workshop.

The new skateboard park was opened by Lesley  Jones, as she was one of the main driving forces behind the project, alongside project support at Hebden Royd Town Council.

Following the opening of the skate park, various competitions were held and the level of talent was extraordinary. This facility in the park is truly world class and should attract many users from afar.

I saw hundreds of people at the park and this event is growing into a a great annual festival for our area.

Hebden Bridge blues Festival Launch event

I was invited to the launch event of Hebden Bridge Blues Festival on Friday 20th May.

The music at the launch event was super and the festival itself is bringing over 50 artists form all over the world. The festival itself begins on 27th May and should be a great success and bring many people into our town. It will also add even more music variety to our already wide range of arts and music.

Enjoying the launch Party

Mytholmroyd Station Partnership

Amy and myself attended the 5th aniversary of the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership on 19th May 2011.

This was our first official appointment as Mayor and Mayoress and was in our home ward of Cragg Vale. We opened a memorial for Betty Ward together with her husband Harry. Betty was a very well respected long serving Councillor and ex Mayor of Hebden Royd.

We also met old and new station masters. Mytholmroyd Station 50 years ago had 80 staff... amazing.

This group does a fantastic job at ensuring the main gateway to Mytholmroyd is something we can be all proud of. Special thanks to Geoff Mitchell
