Hebden Royd School's Kenneth Kaberry Awards

Over the weeks before the Summer holidays I held assemblies at all the schools in our area.

At all the Primary schools in Hebden Royd  I had meetings with each Head to discuss my Mayoral theme of encouraging international links, particularly with our twin towns. I have lists of potential partner schools in our twin town and links will be suggested at the start of the new school year.

Kenneth Kaberry Awards

Kenneth Kaberry was the Council Clerk from 1936 to 1986, years, a massive 50 years service to our Community !!

To mark this special event, on his retirement, the council decided to mark the long service in a special way... Kenneth Kaberry enjoyed books immensely and it was decided in a council meeting on his retirement in 1986 that each school in the area would receive an award allowance, preferably to be allocated towards books for the school library.

This year I have continued the tradition to each school in the area, I have held the assembly at each school and explained to the children the role of the council and presented the school with their cheque awards.

We also explained the importance of schools councils and the importance of democracy.

Primary schools visited in Hebden Royd were:

Burnley Road Primary School
Central Street Infant and Nursery School
Cragg Vale Junior and Infant School
Hebden Royd C.E (VA) Primary School
Riverside Junior School
Scout Road Primary School
Stubbings Infant School

During each visit, I nominated a 'Mayoress' from the school children to help with the assembly to help me. together we would present the cheque to the school. It was a fun event for the children.
